Hotdogs, Tamales, Italian Beef and a Wedding!!!!

Sharing is caring!

Over the last few days we have had relatives from Florida staying with us to attend a family wedding, so I haven’t had much time for blogging and visiting my favorite blogs. Don’t worry, I’ll be back to normal shortly! I just wanted to share with you some of their favorite foods they crave when they come to Chicago.
One of their traditions is Portillo’s Italian beef, always consistent! perfectly spiced! Never a disappointment!

A tamale from Portillo’s. Yes, these are not traditional tamales you make wrapped up in corn husks, but there’s something about the taste of these steamed goodies!!

And of course who can resist a Chicago style hotdog? Nobody in my family can!!!

And last but not least, I wanted to share with you a picture of my precious Granddaughter who was the flower girl at the wedding.
I know I’m a little biased but isn’t she beautiful? 🙂
Can’t wait to see what all of you have been up to!
Talk to you soon,
Marie

  5. Thanks everyone on the nice comments on my Granddaughter.
Portillo’s is great, but now I’m craving an arugula salad! (ha ha)

Jo, Jenny was indeed a beautiful bride!!

Amy, believe it or not she hates things in her hair, as soon as we got to the reception, she wanted the veil out!

  6. Oh, I think it is her posture, so confident!
    America’s Next Top Model.

BTW – I take my nephews to Portillo’s.
Them: hot dog with ketchup, me: Polish with the works.

  7. Great looking sandwich! Makes me hungry.

Your granddaughter is adorable! Like a little princess. I can’t see her face, but I am sure she is a cutie pie:)

  8. Marie, she’s so cute and the dress is fab!! Love the first sambo, that beef looks so good!! Glad to have you back:)

  9. How fun celebrating with family..and food is the way to do it! I am originally from Philly..I love steak sandwiches..yum!!
Marie..your granddaughter is beautiful!! The flower girl apparel is a forerunner of the wedding gown! 🙂 Can you just imagine!!

  10. What a cute little girl!
Those Chicago treats sure look great!

  11. Maria, your grand daughter is beautiful! She looks like a miniature bride — so cute!

I found out I’m going to be a grandmother by the end of the year! I’m so excited — it’s my first grandchild!

The taco and hot dogs looks so yummy! I hope to be able to visit Chicago someday and have both!

    Hugs, Pat

  12. Those photos–what a blast from the past! We used to live in the Chicago area and I miss Portillo’s Italian Beef sandwiches and those Chicago-style hot dogs. Ah, just 2 of the many (food-related) things I love about the city. Luckily, we get to come back and visit a few times a year!

  13. Sounds like you had a very special time with your family…the motto I go by…good food, good friends, good times)

  14. All looks amzing!! and your grand daughter really lovely!! and beauty!!! xxGloria

  15. Your granddaughter is SO cute!!!! Look at her! AWWWWW!!!!

  16. What an absolute sweetie she is…pretty little flowergirl Marie! I used to love making a 100 braids for my daughter too when she had waist length hair. then came swimming & school trips, so i had it chopped off!! BTW a Yummy award awaits you…:0) Deeba

  17. That beef sandwich looks good.

  18. You have every right to be biased!!! My goodness, what a doll! I wish my daughter would let me do her hair – it can only be brushed once a day, no barettes or rubberbands (boohoo!) Glad you had fun with the family & got to celebrate the wedding with all kinds of naughty foods.

Best wishes to the happy couple & glad you to you around again!

  19. She’s gorgeous, gorgeous! I’m from NYC, and I still don’t get the Chicago hot dog thing, lol. Sauerkraut and mustard all the way! But you know what? Now that I’ve been living in the Midwest since 1980 or so, I really should try a fully decked out Chicago dog.

  20. What a day! “B” was the best flower girl ever, and the bride, even though she is my daughter and I am certainly NOT biased, was the most beautiful bride. If only you had cooked the food, instead of the caterer, it would have been the most perfect day! Although, then you would have missed the fun.

  21. What a lovely granddaughter 🙂

Maybe we should all do a blog on regional foods ?

  22. She’s a angel!
I love to do a drive by at Portillos( epescially in my youth after a wild night) Give me the the Italian Beef Combo( beef with the sausage). Whoa baby!

  23. Marie, Your granddaughter is precious! ..and that beef sandwich looks amazing.

  24. Looking forward to the return!

  25. Gosh Marie, I was just about to open a can of kraut to top the hot dogs for lunch… Now I think I’ll slice up tomatoes , dice up some onions, and open a jar of pickles instead!
