ITALIAN SAUSAGE WITH PEPPERS AND POTATOES!!

Sharing is caring!

When I’m asked to bring a dish to a party, and especially when it’s a large group, I often bring this. It’s a mix of Italian sausage, red and green peppers and potatoes. That was the case this past Thursday when I brought this to our Italian American club’s party. Being fairly new members, and the fact that there would be a room full of Italians, I knew I couldn’t get just any sausage!! No, it had to be the best!! So I got in my car and drove out to my favorite source for the best Italian sausage!!(in my opinion!)

I love this place! Just the smell when you walk in the door, it hasn’t changed in years! My kids remember coming here when they were small, and to this day, when they have their own parties and need some good quality food, they come here. Or if they just have a “taste” for something like their marinated artichokes, or their black pepper focaccia, or….the list goes on and on!!

Their sausage is so flavorful, and made fresh daily. They have Sweet with fennel, Medium with fennel and some red pepper flakes(just the right amount) Hot, 3x’s the red pepper!!! It’s so good on the grill, and just recently added a new one, Del Vino with wine. My favorite is medium.

This is only a fraction of what they have! There’s so much more packed into this tiny little store!

I did have to take home some extra little goodies for me and the Hubby to snack on!

Here’s how you make it****

Just take a big pan, cut up any kind of potatoes,( I leave the skin on) cut up your peppers, drizzle them with extra virgin, salt and pepper, a splash of white wine (optional), and smashed garlic. Place sausage on top, and roast in a very hot oven about 425 degree F. till crispy and potatoes cooked tender. Keep turning the sausage over so all sides get cooked through. You’ll know when it’s done by the way it looks.

Buon Appetito!!!

  1. Tryed this dish tonight and wow it was so nice, me and my family just loved it. keep them comming.

  2. Try the Tort Salad again it is now exactly the same.

  3. Great recipe and I love your pictures of D’Andrea’s — I miss that place. Tonini’s is very good, but I think their cold tortellini salad (with tomato sauce that had a lot of basil and parmesan cheese) is slightly different. I’ve been trying to recreate D’Andrea’s and I’m close but not quite there yet. I’ll be posting it on my blog tomorrow (which is how I found yr blog, trying to find a pic of D’Andrea’s; I am planning on linking to yr site for them, OK?) Do you have a recipe for that by any chance? I checked your blog but couldn’t find it. Thanks.

  4. Anonymous, Thanks so much for all the updating on D’Andrea’s, and the new store. I plan to take a ride there next week. I’m soooo glad to hear the sausage was still good! YaY!!!

  5. Tonini’s Italian Market it is a smaller version of the old store with a modern look. The sausage, ravioli & beef is outstanding. The girls behind the counter are very accommodating. Dave who was the manager at D’Andreas is the owner along with his wife Taresa. The store is beautifully decorated & clean. You should see the place. I was impressed.

  6. Anonymous, Thank you for the update,my whole family will be overjoyed!!!, I hope the sausage recipe is still the same!
    Thanks Again, Marie

  7. Hello, Wanted to send an update to everyone that Tonini’s Italian Market at 6950-52 Windsor in Berwyn will be opening on November 22nd. The former manager of D’Andrea’s is opening this store. If you want to be on the mailing list send him an email at toniniitalianmrkt@sbcglobal.net for special coupons.

  8. This is the way mom cooked sausages.
To this day, it’s my favorite. I have a friend from Sicily. She adds a can of red sauce into the mix.

Great and Simple Recipe. Throw it in a pan and cook it till it looks good. Typical Italian Recipe.

    Love it

  9. Anonymous, you are the best!! Thanks so much for the info, I will pass it on to my family members who will be so excited to hear, so is it the same family running it? I’m going to be put on their mailing list. Don’t be such a stranger! 🙂

Hello, The italian store is opening in south Berwyn. It is Tonini’s Italian Market at 6950-52 Windsor in Berwyn. The store will carry the same quality products including the sausage, ravioli, deli meat & cheeses etc. The store hopes to be open by September 1, 2008. There are signs in the windows. I hope this helps. You can sign up for the mailing list at toniniitalianmrkt@sbcglobal.net

  11. I know! I’m devasted!!! I hope they reopen! ( who are you?)

  12. FYI–D’Andrea’s closed on New Year’s Eve. 🙁 They’re hoping to find a new location in Berwyn by Easter. I don’t know where I’m going to go for my sausage now.

  13. This sounds easy to make and tasty. Italian style sausages are a favorite of mine.

  14. Lori Lynn, My daughter lives near Wrigley on the northside, and recommends Joseph’s Market on Irving and Cumberland. It’s not quite Wrigley area, but not too far away from there. I’ve had their Italian sausage and its very good! Also, Caputo’s on Harlem has lots of Italian goodies too, its a little further out but worth the trip!

Hi Lisa, The lupini beans are a favorite of my daughter, I actually bought that for her. She sprinkles course black pepper on them and eats them as a snack!!
    Thanks for your comments Lisa!

Chris,If you ever need me to ship you something, just let me know!!

  15. I miss good Italian Markets. No one seems to know what those are down here. I adore sausages and peppers. It was one of my favorite weekend meals growing up. I haven’t made any since last winter. I think it is time to bring them forth again! 🙂

  16. And oh, I just noticed the lupini beans! My mother used to get those at our local Italian market all the time. Yum. One of the international markets here in town carries them; I need to go get some!

  17. Mamma mia! 🙂 I would give both of my arms—wait, no, then I couldn’t cook—well, I’d give a LOT to have a store like that near me. Wowie. And thanks for the sausages recipe; my husband would love to eat that and I’m going to try it.
